Junior Social Media Manager

Remote | British Columbia preferred | Part-time Subcontractor

$650 CAD/month + additional paid creative opportunities

Salt Leaf is a boutique digital marketing agency looking for a creative Junior Social Media Manager to join our growing team.

We work closely with small businesses and brands to create thoughtful, strategic marketing that actually feels like them. Our clients are never just account numbers. We care about understanding their businesses, their audiences and what makes their brands unique. I'm looking for someone who brings that same level of care to their work.

This role is for someone who already has experience creating social media content and, importantly, has a really great creative eye.

You'll initially work closely with me, taking the strategy and content direction I've developed for our clients and turning it into polished, on-brand content.

I'm not looking for someone who needs every slide, hook, template and creative decision mapped out for them. I want someone who can be given the direction, understand the brand and think: "Oh, I know what we could do with this."

What You'll Be Doing

You'll initially support the content creation and delivery for two established Salt Leaf social media clients, working from existing brand guidelines and strategy.

Your work will primarily include:

- Turning approved content plans into polished, on-brand social content, including graphics, carousels, and short-form video/Reels (photo and video assets will be supplied)

- Creating occasional Instagram Stories and supporting community engagement for one account

- Scheduling content

- Bringing your creative eye to the work: finding inspiration and suggesting ideas when you see something that would be a great fit for a client

You'll work closely with me while you learn each brand, with clear direction, feedback and support along the way.

There will also be opportunities for additional paid creative work for Salt Leaf's ads clients as needed.

You Might be a Great Fit If...

You Have A Great Creative Eye

This is probably one of the most important parts of the role.

You understand what makes content feel polished, intentional and premium. You notice typography, spacing, composition, imagery and the little details that make something feel right.

You can work within an established brand rather than applying the same aesthetic to every account.

Salt Leaf works with brands where visual quality matters, and I'm particularly drawn to creative work that feels elevated and would be at home with boutique hospitality, tourism, lifestyle and premium service brands.

Knowing how to use Canva is important.

Having an eye for what actually looks good is even more important.

You're Creatively Proactive

If I give you the purpose of a post, the client's strategy, brand guidelines and assets, you can take it from there.

You enjoy finding inspiration, thinking about how an idea could come to life and bringing your own creative suggestions to the table.

Hearing something like “I saw this concept and immediately thought it could work really well for this client” would make me very happy.

You Care About the Details

Spelling matters. Brand fonts matter. Colours matter. Alignment matters. Understanding the purpose behind what we're creating matters.

You don't want to check something off a list just because it's technically finished. You care about creating work you're proud to put in front of a client.

You're Reliable and Communicate Well

I don't expect you to be sitting at a computer from 9-5 every day. I care about building a business where people can do excellent work and have a life outside of it.

I do expect clear communication, agreed deadlines to be respected and potential problems to be communicated early.

You're Collaborative

You don't need to be the loudest person in the room.

You do enjoy bouncing ideas around, contributing your perspective, learning, sharing what you're seeing and creating great work together.

I'm looking for someone warm, engaged, curious and excited about what we're building.

Experience

This is a junior role, but it isn't a “I'll teach you how to make a Reel ” role.

You should already be comfortable with most of the following:

Canva

Instagram and Facebook

Reels and short-form video editing

Meta's editing tools (Edits)

Writing social media captions

Hooks and basic social media content best practices

Social media scheduling

Working within brand guidelines

Finding creative inspiration independently

You might have worked freelance, at another agency, in-house for a brand or as a content creator. I'm less concerned about the exact path you've taken than I am about the quality of your work, your creative instincts and how you approach it.

You'll receive guidance and support as you learn Salt Leaf's clients, systems and way of working.

How the Role Can Grow

Initially, I'll continue to lead client strategy, high-level content planning, client relationships and final review.

As you learn the accounts and demonstrate that I can trust your work, the goal is more independence.

For the right person, there is room to grow into greater content planning and account ownership as Salt Leaf grows. And in turn, compensation will be reviewed accordingly and grow, as the scope and level of responsibility grow.

Compensation & Working Arrangement

This is a subcontractor position at $650 CAD/month for the defined recurring client scope.

This is a deliverables-based monthly retainer rather than an hourly role.

There will also be opportunities for additional paid creative work outside of the regular monthly scope, particularly for Meta Ads clients.

This role is remote, with a preference for someone based in British Columbia. You'll need to be able to provide services as an insured subcontractor.

You don't need to be local to Salt Leaf, but you'll need enough crossover with Pacific Time working hours for communication, collaboration and occasional meetings.

How to Apply

I'd love to see your work and get a little sense of who you are.

Please submit:

- A short answer covering the last three jobs, agencies or clients you've worked with (who it was with, what you did, roughly how long)

- A portfolio or examples of social media/design work you've created

- Examples of Reels or short-form video you've edited

- When you'd be able to start, if offered the role

- A short video of no more than 3 minutes answering the four questions below

Please note that your video does not need to be fancy or edited. A simple phone or Loom-style video is totally fine. I'm much more interested in hearing from you than seeing a perfectly produced application.

In the video, please answer:

1. Why are you interested in this position?

2. What do you know about Salt Leaf?

3. What kind of working relationship and environment helps you do your best work?

4. Where do you see yourself in five years?

Applications are open now and reviewed on a rolling basis. There's no fixed deadline, and I'd rather take the time to find the right person than rush to fill this quickly. My hope is to have someone onboarding in September, but that will flex around finding the right fit rather than the other way around. If it looks like a fit, you'll hear from me to arrange an interview, followed by a small paid creative exercise before any final decision.
